Chateau Cabezac

Location: The vineyard is situated in the foothills of the Causse. There are four types of terroirs, all complementary, the majority being classified as AOC Minervois.

The Mont des Capitelles: This is sloping land (18%) facing due south, formed by metamorphic-type sandstone. The soil is very deep and poor. The water supply is reliable (no drought). This land is highly suited to growing white and Grenache grape varieties. It lends the wine subtlety, aroma and complexity.

The Plateau of Belvèze: At an altitude of 200 metres and formed of glacial drift originating in the Montagne Noire, the Plateau comprises well-drained land that nonetheless retains a good water supply thanks to the clay subsoil. With a magnificent aspect, it benefi ts from a hot, dry micro-climate, cooled by the winds blowing off the Causse and the Pyrenees. This is an exceptional terroir.

The Garrigots: Also classified AOC, with an excellent filtering soil of river pebbles, ensuring good drainage.

The Plateau of Cazelles: Located at an altitude of 350 metres, the Plateau offers many advantages on account of its typicality, conferred by the frost-shattered limestone which accumulates heat during the day and gently warms the vines at night. The landscape has a lunar-like appearance with a surface layer of white stones, and is very rich in organic matter (3 to 4%). The underlying clay subsoil regulates plant growth throughout the year. The altitude generates temperature differences during the summer, producing a subtle, concentrated and complex wine.

Cuvée "Arthur" | Cuvée "Belvèze"

Cuvée "Arthur"

Tasting

The colour is a deep red sustained, brilliand and limpid. The nose is intense, ripe, fruity, evolving towards cocoa and liquorice notes. The mouth, still young, reveals a very good equilibrium, is elegantly woody with fine tannins and a good length. The high altitude grown grapes offer a greater aromatic complexity and a much better acid support giving a much more important potential to aging.

"Terroirs"

The "Garriots", "Belvèze" and "Cazelles" plateaux. Depending on the varietal, these three plots are made of good drained pebbly ground, metamorphic stones from glacial depost of the Montagne Noire, slightly acid, gravely clay schist and typical frost-shattered limestone.

Vinification

Selected grapes issued from our best plots cultivated using the method of the <<luttee raisonnée>>. Harvested grapes macerate for 15 to 20 days in vats. 18 months maturation in either new or one-wine aged barrels.

Production

19,000 bottles.
Varietals: Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache.
Alcohol content: 14%
Yield: 30-35 hl/ha.

Cuvée "Belvèze"

Tasting

Deep red, sustained and limpid. A first nose of spices followed by wild black fruit, then woody, very light, melting away. A fine, complex, powerful nose. The attack in the mouth is lively, full, fat, powerful and very fresh. The tannins are tight but very fine and give a very good woody equilibrium, with a touch of mint and eucalyptus. Very long, round. Can be kept up to 10 years without any problem.

"Terroir"

"Belvèze" plateau: metamorphic stones from glacial deposit of the Montagne Noire, gravely clay schist, slightly acid.

Vinification

Harvested manually, the grapes are de-stemmed; vinification and maceration take place in stainless steel vats for 20 to 25 days. Manual "pigeage" (the grit caps are being punched manually), 18 months maturation in 50% new oak barrels, 50% of one wine.

Production

10,350 bottles and 340 magnum botthes.
Grape variety: Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache.
Alcohol volume: 14.5%
